A flush entrance door sits perfectly flat in its frame — no raised mouldings, no stepped sash, just one clean plane of colour with a long pull handle. It is the defining front-door look of contemporary building, and aluminium is the material that does it best: rigid enough for tall leaves, stable enough to stay flat, and finished in any colour you can name.
What "flush" actually means
On a traditional door the sash sits visibly inside its frame. On a flush design, the sash covers the frame from outside, so the eye reads a single uninterrupted panel. Insulated leaf constructions run up to 92mm thick, which is what allows door U-values from around 0.8 W/m²K — comfortably beyond what Building Regulations require.
Big doors, done properly
Aluminium's stiffness lets flush doors go tall and wide without twisting: leaves up to around 2.7 metres high in our range, with matching flush side lights and fanlights where the hallway deserves more glass. Pivot hinges are an option for the widest statement leaves. This is where timber and composite doors start to struggle — a tall, dark-coloured slab in the sun stays flat in aluminium.
Security and locking
Looks aside, a front door is security hardware. Specify a door tested to PAS 24 (as our entrance range is), with multi-point automatic locking that throws hooks and bolts the moment the door closes — no key turn needed to be secure. Smart options add fingerprint readers, keypads and app control tied into the same mechanical locking, so convenience never bypasses the tested hardware. Read more about testing in our guide to PAS 24 security.
Panels, glass and finishes
- Solid leaf: the purest look, in any RAL colour, matt textures or wood-effect finishes.
- Glazed strips: slim vertical vision panels, obscured or clear, bring light to the hall without compromising the flush face.
- Side lights and fanlights: glazed surrounds that match the door's frame exactly.
- Dual colour: one finish outside, another inside, so the door suits both the elevation and the hallway.
Handles range from discreet edge pulls to 1,800mm bar handles; recessed and integrated LED options exist for the full grand-designs entrance.
Getting it specified
The right entrance door matches the rest of the envelope, so consider choosing it alongside your windows and door range for identical colour and sightlines. Send your opening size and preferred style through the quote form — quotations are free, itemised and typically returned within two to three working days.
This article is general guidance, not a project specification. Performance figures such as U-values depend on configuration and glazing, and your quotation states the tested values for your exact specification.
