The great flaw of the glorious open bi-fold is everything that flies in through it. A plissé screen solves this without wrecking the architecture: a pleated mesh that concertinas across the opening on a track just a few millimetres high, disappears into a slim side cassette when parked, and spans widths that defeat conventional roller flyscreens. Our SV-2700 Plissé is designed exactly for the big glazed openings the rest of our catalogue creates.
How plissé screens work
The mesh is permanently pleated, folding like an accordion as it travels. Tensioned cords keep it taut at any position — there is no spring fighting you, so the screen stays wherever you leave it, half-open included. The floor track is low-profile enough to walk, wheel and toddle over barefoot, which matters on the level thresholds of modern bi-folds and sliders.
Living with the mesh
Modern black mesh reads as a light veil rather than a curtain — vision through it is good, and airflow barely notices it. Because movement is cord-guided rather than sprung, operation is gentle enough for children, and there is no snap-back. Single screens cover standard doors; double screens meet in the middle to span multi-metre bi-fold openings. Frames powder-coat to match your doors, so the parked cassette all but vanishes against the jamb.
Where they earn their keep
- Kitchen bi-folds open on summer evenings — cooking smells out, moths and mosquitoes not in.
- Bedroom sliders and balcony doors left open at night.
- Garden-room and pergola-side openings, where still evenings bring midges.
- Any home near water, farmland or a park — the UK's insect season is short but committed.
Plissé, roller or fixed?
Roller screens such as our SV-3600 Flyroll suit windows and standard doors, where the sprung cassette is compact and quick. Plissé takes over as openings get wide and thresholds get flat — its track height and stay-anywhere action are built for door duty. Fixed frames suit windows that are rarely closed. If shutters are also on the wish list, the wider range of shutters and insect screens covers both jobs.
Ordering
Screens are made to measure to your exact opening, supplied and fitted or supply-only. Send opening sizes (or the door order they will pair with) through the quote form — matching the screen at the same time as the doors keeps colours identical and thresholds coordinated.
This article is general guidance, not a project specification. Performance figures such as U-values depend on configuration and glazing, and your quotation states the tested values for your exact specification.
